their potential not only in the classroom but in artistic and sporting fields
also. Every student who attends The Workshop Studios will be encouraged to reach their highest potential, whatever their age, whatever their chosen genre – in a positive, professional, fully supported and fun environment.
Workshop Company Class
AUDITION ONLY
An intensive class for students who show real promise and natural ability towards a higher, more intense level of training.
Members of the Workshop Company train in different styles of dance, undertake practice in singing and script work and at senior level – receive mentoring in audition preparation for vocational training.
Ballet
A classical dance style demanding grace, strength and precision, ballet employs formalised steps and gestures set in intricate, flowing patterns to create expression through movement. Ballet is traditionally performed to classical music but with more contemporary developments can sometimes be seen danced to alternative styles of music.
Our students take ballet exams from Pre-Primary all the way up to vocational level Advanced 2.
Modern
Modern Theatre dance is a rhythmic dance style which originated in America. It is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps, and turns which all need strength, flexibility and technique. This is a highly energetic dance style.
Modern and Tap classes are usually combined and exams can be taken from Primary up to vocational level Advanced 2.
Tap
Tap has evolved as a dance form, drawing from American influences, African dance, Irish dance and/or clog dancing. Tap dance is a theatrical art form often seen on stage in musicals or in collaborative dance/percussion pieces.
Tap is often combined with Modern, and exams can be taken from Primary to vocational level Advanced 2.
We also offer fun, adult classes for beginers through to the more experienced tapper.
Acro
AcroDance is an artistic fusion of acrobatics and dance. Incorporating the flexibility, strength and athleticism of gymnastics while delivering all movement with the musicality, expression, emotion and controlled lines of dance. Acro begins with basic skill level and can progress onto more aerial/tumbling skills with training.
Our Acro teachers are qualified with the Acrobatic Arts Organisation and incorporate this training within Technique & Tumbling classes.
Musical Theatre
The triple threat of performing. Musical Theatre incorporates dance, singing and acting to tell stories with emotional content, humour and drama. Musicals can be performed in big budget productions in West End and Broadway theatres, or as smaller more intimate performances in fringe or regional theatre.
PBT
Progressing Ballet Technique is an innovative program designed for students to understand the depth of training muscle memory to assist in achieving their personal best in classical ballet. Not a replacement for ballet class but an invaluable addition to technical training that crosses over to and benefits all genres of dance requiring technical execution.
Technique & Tumbling
A dedicated class concentrating on specific technical dance skills such as turns, leaps and jumps and developing basic to progressive tumbling skills in a safe and controlled environment.
Classes are available from 5 years through to senior level.
Jazz/Street Dance/Contemporary
Jazz has many definitions and style options. With a more dynamic edge than modern dance, it can switch between the oozy blues of jazz music to a more up-tempo contemporary dance style.
Street Dance is the umbrella term that houses the urban crew styles of dance such as hip hop, house, breaking, popping and locking. Commercial is a much more choreographed style of dance, often with an urban flavour and seen in music video and live concerts.
Contemporary is a fusion of classical ballet technique, lyrical jazz and floor work with a real sense of grounded movement and connection to the body. Often delivered in a more abstract setting that modern or jazz, contemporary has found its way into much more main stream performance over the past few years.
Our Termly Jazz programme rotates the above styles along with Technique Training and Body Conditioning.
Tiddlywinks
Pre School classes are a hugely beneficial way to encourage creativity, motor skill development, independent thought, confidence building, musicality, team work and initial understanding of ‘class etiquette’.
By using music, story-telling, basic technique and fun structure, the youngest students find their feet in a mixed class of dance and song exploring new challenges in a fun and safe environment.
